Come and take a journey through time with this chocolate workshop at the Mayan Cacao Company. Uncover the secrets of the ancient Mayan civilization and learn how chocolate formed such a central role in their social and religious life.
Start your workshop by hearing about how Cacao figured into pre-modern Mayan society as a sacred food, sign of prestige, social centerpiece, and cultural touchstone. Then, you will be walked through the traditional chocolate-making process.
Create your own chocolate bar with the cacao seeds the Mayans used in rituals and ceremonies to honor their gods. Grind them in a traditional pre-hispanic Metate, mix in simple ingredients, and take a piece of Mexican gastronomic culture with your own handmade chocolate bar.
After the workshop, visit the chocolate boutique and give your taste buds a treat by trying 13 different artisanal chocolates.
