Black River Safari Tour from Montego Bay

Overview

Enjoy a 6-hour tour in a comfortable airconditioned vehicle to the Black River Safari, located along the south coast of Jamaica, in the parish of St. Elizabeth.

Experience a 4 miles boat ride on Jamaica’s longest navigable river, through Jamaica’s largest wetland area, known as the Black River lower morass. You’ll be picked up at your Montego Bay hotels, Villas or from the Montego Bay cruise ship pier by your VIP Tours Jamaica driver/guide, for a scenic drive through the mountains and along the coastline to Black River. Here, you will board a boat for your guided tour.

Experience this 45 minutes-1 hour ride on a slow-moving covered boat along the river. Learn about the area’s ecology and history from the experienced captain/guide. See many of the more than 100 bird, animals, and plant species that have been recorded in the morass. Meet a few of the friendly crocodiles as your boat captain calls them by name. They’ll swim up to your boat and you pet them and feed them. You may also see fishermen spearfishing in the river, setting shrimp traps or retrieving their shrimp traps in the river alongside the crocodiles.

Explore the wetland’s vegetation. See the different species of mangrove, palm, ferns, water lilies, among other plants that grow along the banks of the river. Have your camera or phones ready for pictures as your captain slows or comes to a complete stop for you to take pictures of the beautiful flora and fauna. Get up-close pictures of the different sizes of the crocodiles in their territory as the captain call them up to the boat. If you are a brave person, you can pet them and have your picture taken.
